Gail Hyden Receives the President's Meritorious Service Award
Congratulations to our own Gail Hyden, who was one of 25 to receive the prestigious President's Meritorious Service Award (PMSA). The winners of the 2009 President’s Meritorious Service Awards will receive their awards during a special program hosted by Interim President Dr. R. Bowen Loftin. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the the Hagler Auditorium in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at the George Bush Presidential Library Center. A reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony.
The President's Meritorious Service Awards began in 1986. Currently, these awards are presented to recognize 25 outstanding staff employees and one outstanding team for their meritorious service to the University. Nominations are typically called for during the month of September and an anonymous committee appointed by the President selects the recipients.
Awards are presented at the President's Holiday Coffee in December. Each individual recipient receives a $700 cash award, a commemorative plaque, and a lapel pin. The team will be recognized with a plaque for departmental display. Each member of the team receives a cash award of $200 and a framed certificate of recognition.
Over the years, the program has increased from 10 individual recipients to the current 25. The team selection was included in 1995 to recognize an increasing part of the TAMU workforce which functions as teams.
Employees eligible must be a member of the Texas A&M University staff (persons holding faculty rank are not eligible); have a minimum of two years service with Texas A&M University; be below the level of department or unit head, director or related titles; be budgeted at least 50% with Texas A&M University. For team nominations, the above eligibility requirements apply, with the exception that the majority of team members must have a minimum of two years service with Texas A&M University and not have been a past team award recipient. Any member of the faculty and staff of Texas A&M University may make nominations.
The President's Meritorious Service Awards Program is sponsored by the Office of the President and The Association of Former Students. The program is coordinated by TAMU Human Resources.
